Our region and our school in France

In summer, we go to the "Gorges de l'Ardèche" because our family lives there.We can swim, canoe and visit beautiful places like "le Pont d'Arc".

"Le Pont d'Arc" is a natural bridge, located in the south of France in Ardèche, it is nicknamed the " porte d'entrée naturelle" of the "gorges de l'Ardèche".

Here is a picture of La Caverne du Pont d’Arc.

La Caverne du Pont d’Arc is a replica of "La Grotte de Chauvet". Its construction began in October 2012 and was opened to the public in 2015. The site includes a thousand paintings and engravings, including 447 representations of animals from 14 different species, these are the oldest paintings. We can visit it.

Dakota school is bigger than Xavier Mallet school because there are 1600 students whereas there are 800 students in our school, it's twice bigger. Your school is more beautiful than our school because maybe your school is private ? Do you have to pay ? Our school is free and public. Your school is sportier than ours… And in your city, there are big skyscrapers. Your  teams are stronger than ours (basketball, American football, baseball…) but our team of handball, ping-pong… are stronger.

Hello, I am going to present you my high school's canteen. First it is necessary to wait for a long time to be able to eat because the queue is not organized. The canteen is not necessarily good but there are exceptions: chocolate mousse, cheese,... The canteen is clean, is often cleaned. They make all kinds of dishes even for the students who cannot eat meat, indeed always fish but with other toppings. There are about 600 students who eat at the canteen and can eat until 1:15 pm. We have cards that allow us to pass, and they also allow us to go back to school.

Hello American friends !

Our time schedule is different from yours. We begin all days at 8am and we finish at different hours. We have class until 5h30pm for example. It changes according to the week : week A or week B.

Unlike middle school, in our high school we can go outside whenever we want. Every student has an electronic card. With this card we can enter the high school and also eat at the school canteen.

We have between 1 hour and 1h30 to eat.

In our school, we have a special study room where there are vending machines for hot drinks (coffee, tea, hot chocolate,.…) and where we can use our phones ! We also can use our phones in the hall.

In France, we only have a driver’s licence at 18 but we can have the accompanied driving at the age of 15.

Our timetable :

Our timetable is relatively stable but it is divided into « Semaine A » and « Semaine B » and « Trimester 1, 2 and 3 »

In « semaine A » we have 32 hours whereas in « semaine B » we have 33 hours.

Sometimes, our class is separated into two different groups, or with people from different classes. Normally, we start at 8.00 am and finish at 4.30pm and our lessons last 1 hour.

We always change of classroom every hour, from one subject to another. We have additional courses like « accompagnement personnalisé » and exploration lessons. « Accompagnement personnalisé » is twice a week for 6 weeks. At the beginning of the year we had the choice between different categories of subjects like « boost your English », «career guidance », « philosophy »…

In exploration lessons, we have, «economics and science », «scientific methods and pratices », « literature and society », « a third foreign language »… 
These exploration lessons are mandatory. We can also choose some options like Latin.

Presentation of the athletic section of handball in our high school

In our high school, there is an athletic section of handball. Handball is a collective sport which is practiced with 7 players: 1 goal and 6 field players. 

The aim of this sport is to score goals in the enemy's cages. 1 goal is worth 1 point. In France this sport is more and more popular, thanks to the success of the French team that dominates the sport worldwide.

In our English class, we are 4 to do handball and to be in the sports section of the school. In total, we are about 30 to be part of the sports section. We have training every day of the week and games on weekends.
